- Due to the ozone-oxygen cycle, UV radiations are converted into heat energy. Hence the UV radiation reaching the Earth’s surface has been reduced considerably.
- But for the few decades, the ozone in the stratosphere is depleted gradually due to the Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) and other complementary substances released from the Earth’s surface.
- According to the recent studies, it is detected that the ozone hole has been caused at the area of Antarctica Stratosphere due to the decrease in ozone level to low as 33%.
- So many worried about that if the ozone hole at the Antarctica can drifts up to nearby areas and it may affect other parts of the world.
- It is expected that the increase in ozone depletion will increase the UVB surface radiation. So the damages caused by UVB radiation like skin cancer will be increased.

- Increase in UVB radiation in the Earth Surface will cause the basal and squamous cell carcinomas, malignant melanoma and cortical cataracts for the humans.
- It also affects the crops like rice by destroying the beneficial bacteria such as cyanobacteria which is helpful for the retention of nitrogen at the roots of rice plant.
- So many organizations and researchers of various countries are planning to decrease the usage of CFCs in refrigerators and air conditioners.
- In US, instead of CFC, HFC -134a is suggested to use in automobile air conditioners
- In laboratory analytics also the ozone depleting substances are replaced by various other solvents.
